Tools, Weapons and Armour
Japaneses fishermen made fish hook out of bone from antler and poles from bamboo in the 7th century, and wealthy Japaneses men started fishing for sport
Samurai the warriors of Japan fought with long swords called katana and short swords called wakizashi. They also used spears called yari and daggers called tanta. Samurai also had small knives called kozuka. the Samurai armour consisted of haramaki, a piece of armor to protect a samurai’s torso. It had a skirt called kasazuri to protect the lower torso. A samurai’s helmet was called a kabuto. A kabuto had a neck guard called shikoro. It sometimes had a crest called a kasjirushi. The neck was also protected by a piece called the nowdawa. Samurai also wore masks called mempo. They wore armored sleeves called kote to protect their arms. Nata is a type of knife used by the Japanese. Nata sometimes have a blunt tip to protect it from getting damaged by rocks while harvesting mountain plants. Other types of nata are narrow and curved for use in the rice fields. Finally, some types are nearly straight and have no tip, and are used to cut shrubs and small trees. |
